Economic Policy Summit Follow Up Series

Tribal leaders and other key stakeholders will be invited to participate in a series of events designed to continue the discussion from the National Native American Policy Summit held this past May in Phoenix. NCAI will continue to partner with government agencies, the academic community, and others to host and facilitate further discussion.

Energy Development on Tribal Lands

July 17th and 18th  Hyatt Regency Capital Hill   Washington, DC

 

The conference will provide tribal leaders and economic development planners,
attorneys, program managers and industry representatives with the major issues in tribal
energy development. It will cover in depth the roles of the U.S. Department of Energy,
Department of Interior and the Department of Agriculture. Participants will be briefed on
successful strategies to develop tribal energy projects, tips for funding, as well as the
current legislative landscape for developing energy on Indian lands.

Protecting Tribal Sovereignty & Tribal Labor Law Convention

July 22nd to 26th  Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel Niagara Falls, NY

 

The program will offer practical advice to tribal leaders, tribal attorneys, TERO officers, human resource managers and 477 program directors on protecting and promoting tribal sovereignty and tribal self-determination in the regulation of reservation employment in the light of the San Manuel v. NLRB decision. Featured in the program are leading experts in Indian Employment law including the “Tribal Labor Ordinances Workgroup” made up the staff attorneys from Council for Tribal Employment Rights (CTER), NCAI, Native American Rights Fund (NARF), , and National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA).

Native American and Alaska Native 8(a) Impact Days

July 24th and 25th   Capital Hill    Washington, DC

NCAI, Native American Contractors Association (NACA) and the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED) are organizing a Native 8(a) Impact Days. The purpose of the impact day is to continue to educate key members of Congress on the work Native contractors are doing in their district and to raise concerns with any major changes to the Native 8(a) program.

Wall Street Summit - Access and Management of Capital

September 5th to 7th  Hyatt Regency    Jersey City, NJ

 

As Native American business and enterprise are quickly expanding and gathering force on local, national and global levels, Native American Finance Officers Association’s (NAFOA) Wall Street Summit is presented to help tribal leaders and their finance professionals obtain a clarity of vision for the present and future, and continue to preserve and promote sovereignty through strong financial management. NCAI, NAFOA and the Department of Interior are partnering in this venue to continue the conversation about access and management of capital and a variety of other issues.

Comprehensive Planning for Tribal Communities

October 5th and 6th  Arizona State University  Tempe, AZ

 

The purpose of the jointly hosted event between the University of New Mexico and Arizona State University is to discuss tribal community comprehensive planning needs and to develop a vision and agenda for a tribal planning institute. The summit will bring together tribal planners from Arizona and New Mexico, key policy stakeholders, and university planning faculty from the two Schools of Planning at UNM and ASU. The conference is considered a first and important step toward  defining comprehensive planning and its role in tribal communities. NCAI and the Department of Interior will partner in the event to carry the discussion forward from the Summit that centered on the important role of comprehensive planning.

Annual Indian Land Consolidation Symposium

October 30th to November 2nd  Oneida's Radisson Hotel  Green Bay, WI

 

The Indian Land Working Group will host the17th Annual Indian Land Consolidation Symposium. Over the past several years the ILWG has organized a series of meetings for the purpose of identifying what changes are needed in federal policy and regulations governing trust allotments.

NCAI Annual Convention

November 11th to 16th       Denver, CO

NCAI will take the opportunity at its annual convention to review our progress. With conferences held on energy, employment, comprehensive planning, access to capital, government contracting and defining a legislative course, NCAI will have addressed many of the core issues defined as challenges during the economic Summit. Join us in reviewing our progress and defining where we go from here to develop healthy and vibrant Native economies.

Law Reform for Economic Development

To Be Determined Arizona State University  Tempe, AZ

 

Law reform is key to creating a business friendly environment and sustained tribal development. This conference will address the main components of law reform as it relates to economic development including constitutional reform, transaction, investment and businesses codes. NCAI, the Department of Interior and ASU will host this follow up conference.
