Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five years philanthropic experience
  • Management experience, including supervision, budgeting and financial oversight, development, fundraising, public relations and marketing.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • Solid understanding of fundraising concepts and a demonstrated history of successful fundraising
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills, able to distill abstract concepts in a concise and compelling way
  • Ability to develop relationships and build confidence using 21st century technologies (email, telephone, print, web sites) as well as face-to-face contact
  • Well-honed strategic thinking skills with the ability to be flexible and adaptable, revising strategies as necessary
  • Able to think globally, distill strategies and distill into operational tasks
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience working in Native communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within and developing a high performing team environment
  • Ability to self motivate, organize, and meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills
  • Sense of humor, confidence and curiosity
  • Extensive travel

Required Education:
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Advance a Shared Vision and Strategic Direction with Board and Staff
  • Facilitate the advancement of Native Americans in Philanthropy's mission to advance philanthropic practices grounded in native values and traditions.
  • Working in partnership with the board of directors to develop and implement the strategic vision and goals for the organization.
  • Identify and respond to strategic needs and opportunities.
  • Facilitate the recruitment of nominations, orientation and integration of new Board members into the mission and work of Native Americans in Philanthropy.


Increase Organizational Power and Influence

  • Lead Native Americans in Philanthropy's communications strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with Native Americans in Philanthropy's key stakeholders, including members, funders, and the broader Native American community, and identifying ways to increase and enhance member involvement.
  • Increasing Native Americans in Philanthropy's national impact and influence in philanthropy and Native communities through communications efforts (i.e., publications, conferences, web site) and serving as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Insure active participation with strategic partners such as Joint Affinity Groups, Council on Foundations and others.


Integrate and Advance Native Americans in Philanthropy's Programs

  • Coordinating the development and implementation of national and regional programs and facilitating replication across regions as appropriate.
  • Lead and support staff in the creation of annual work plans that usefully guide staff activities.
  • Insure effective program operations and efficient office management systems.
  • Facilitate ongoing evaluation of our work and impact.
  • Insure governance, management and regulatory policies and procedures are current.

Cultivate Financial and Human Resources

  • Manage a small staff and various consultants, as well as the administration and financial management functions of a membership association.
  • Enhance and increase Native Americans in Philanthropy's development efforts and the fundraising involvement of the Board.
  • Provide a management environment that supports and empowers staff and increases organizational effectiveness.
  • Insure diverse Board and committee composition of high caliber people who demonstrate commitment and provide leadership to Native Americans in Philanthropy.
Salary and Benefit: $65,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience and education. Benefits include: health/dependent care coverage, four weeks PTO, and retirement.
