| Will need to work a flexible schedule including daytime, evening, and weekend hours as needed. Interprets for deaf and hard of hearing students in a variety of instructional settings, such as classroom lectures, labs, group discussions, field trips, tutoring sessions and other settings as deemed appropriate by the lead interpreter by using sign language and/or oral interpreting skills and/or other appropriate manual and oral methods of communication. Develops technical sign materials in preparation for classroom and classroom activities. Confers and plans with students, teachers, and other interpreters in preparation for interpreting assignments. Observes and reports student progress or problems to sign language interpreter supervisor. Aid in recruiting of note takers and tutors for deaf and hard of hearing students. Works cooperatively with deaf and hard of hearing students as well as other disabled and non-disables students in multicultural, multiethnic educational environment. Provides general office support to the Special Needs Office. Knowledge of cultural aspects of deafness and cross-cultural mediation. Knowledge of and skills with various methods of expressive and voice interpreting/transliterating (Consecutive, Simultaneous, Manually, Coded English, American Sign Language). Ability to convey information, intent, and spirit of speaker to the deaf or hard of hearing student(s). Ability to conform to an established work schedule. Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner. Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to exercise tact and discretion.
