Since 1944, NCAI has been working tirelessly toward a vision of a stronger and more prosperous Native America. At our first meeting, on November 18, 1944, one of the very first resolutions the delegates passed was a resolution to secure the voting rights for Indians in Arizona and New Mexico.
Almost 70 years later – on November 6, 2012 – the hard work of our founders continued to pay dividends when the Native Vote campaign supported and highlighted efforts that let to Native people in New Mexico registering to vote at a higher rate than that of any other racial/ethnic group (almost 80% registered to vote, compared to 73% African American, 70% Caucasian, and 68% Hispanic). These efforts were multiplied across Indian Country and Native Vote became a movement our ancestors would be proud of.
Our grassroots organized 2012 Native Vote campaign was just one of many program highlights that was fueled by the power of our members and Indian Country. To learn more about everything NCAI accomplished this year, we hope you'll download and review NCAI's 2012 Annual Report "Our America, A Stronger Native America " (PDF | 7 MB).
As 2012 comes to a close and we look ahead to another important year of work, we ask you to include NCAI in your giving plans this holiday season. We need your help to provide the critical financial resources necessary to strengthen and protect tribal sovereignty.
We hope that you will join us in honoring the original vision of NCAI by making an end of year donation today to help us carry forward as we strive for our shared vision of a stronger, more prosperous Native America.
