Land Consolidation

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs held a hearing on the Indian Land Consolidation Act on November 15, and is considering a substitute bill for S. 550. This bill could be marked up and passed this year, so NCAI is encouraging tribes to provide their comments to the bill as soon as possible. The bill has a number of very positive provisions that NCAI is supporting, but we are particularly interested in soliciting tribal comments on the new provisions for "Owner Management" found in Section 5 of the bill, and the new provisions for dealing with unclaimed property and missing persons found in Sections 8 and 9. Below you will find links to the bill and NCAI's testimony of November 15.
