BIOGRAPHY: Michael Marchand

 

Michael Marchand is Chairman for the 12 Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, located in Washington state.  The tribe has 9,200 members and the land area is equal in size to the state of Connecticut, at about 2,100 square miles.

 

Currently serving on the following organizations:
First Vice-President of Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians
Treasurer, Board of Directors for the Council of Energy Resource Tribes (CERT) Executive Board for the Intertribal Monitoring Association (ITMA)
President, ATNI Economic Development Corporation

 

Prior to being on Council, he was a Planning Professor at Eastern Washington University and provided technical assistance in planning, business, environmental, and Indian law for NW tribes. Also served on the BIA Indian Reservation Roads Program Coordinating Committee. Served as a Planner for the Colvilles for many years, where the tribe went from less then ten employees in the 1970’s up to about 2,000 employees today, with diverse business and governmental interests.

 

Mr. Marchand has a Bachelors degree in Economics and Planning and also has a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Eastern Washington University.
