POSITION SUMMARY NIEA is seeking a dynamic, creative and organized Associate Director of Development who is interested in helping a mission-driven nonprofit thrive and grow. Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director, the Associate Director of Development will develop and implement a multi-faceted strategy to build the organization’s funding base. This team member will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all fundraising activities, with an emphasis on grants and foundations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions of this position, include, but are not limited to the following: • Create, manage, implement, and evaluate annual development plan in conjunction with the Executive Director. • Cultivate relationships with potential funders, including initial phone calls, email and social media campaigns, event sponsorship, corporate and foundation relations, Combined Federal Campaign, in-kind contributions, donor events and donor relations programs. • Develop messages that resonate with a variety of prospective funders, and create, maintain, and coordinate donor recognition program. • Implement strategies for identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects. • Research appropriate grant opportunities, and prepare letters of inquiry and grant proposals and other funding requests. • Coordinate with Finance Office and Program Staff to prepare budgets for grant submissions, quarterly/close-out reports, and Board documents. • Maintain understanding of fundraising issues and how they may affect and provide fundraising opportunities for NIEA and the network of partners. • Monitor philanthropic trends as they relate to Native education. • Additional duties as assigned.


Duties And Responsibilities:

QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum three (3) years experiences in fundraising including grant writing. • Foundation relationship and strong grant writing experience. • Knowledge of and experience working with tribes, Native communities, and national Native and civil rights non-profit organizations. • Strong research and analysis skills. • Strength in managing projects and meeting deadlines. • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. • Commitment to NIEA’s mission to Native students and communities. • Ability to work in team environment while demonstrating capacity to solve problems independently.
