Running Strong for American Indian Youth is a national nonprofit organization serving American Indian communities throughout the United States.  Our mission is to help American Indian families meet their immediate survival needs – food, water and shelter – while identifying and supporting programs to encourage self-sufficiency and self-esteem, particularly for Native youth.  Working with National Spokesperson and Olympic Champion Billy Mills, staff in the field, organization affiliates, and local community leaders, we are building a new generation of leaders among today’s Indian youth.

 The Program Assistant is responsible for providing administrative, project-related and communications support to the Executive Director.  He/she works with the Executive Director and staff to administer Running Strong donations, publications, special events and other administrative duties while ensuring that Running Strong is true to its charitable mission and meets the high accountability standards required of any national nonprofit organization. 

A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks without direct supervision.  Strong administrative experience, flexibility, writing skills, and attention to detail a must.

 Willingness to travel (including weekends and to rural parts of the country) as necessary.  Knowledge of and experience with American Indian communities a plus.  Previous nonprofit grants management and/or public relations/media experience a plus.


Required Education:

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree required. 

MS Office proficiency, especially Word, Excel, and Access.


Duties And Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Relieves the Executive Director of administrative-type functions in order to increase the time available for executive level responsibilities.  May assist in a wide variety of situations and conflicts involving administrative and program functions.

Responds to telephone, written and email inquiries from donors, partners, and members of the public.

Works with the staff and field partners to obtain photos, program updates, and write articles for the Annual Report, newsletters, website and other publications.  Site visits programs as needed.

Writes and edits Running Strong’s quarterly newsletter, monthly email newsletters, annual reports, and other publications for the press as needed.

Plans and implements email and social media campaigns.  Updates the Running Strong website with content and registration forms as needed. 

Helps write fundraising appeals and check them for accuracy against program updates.

Attennds and helps manage special events on behalf of the charity as needed.

Helps recruit and manage volunteers.

Travels alone or with other staff to visit program partners or donors when necessary.
