ABOUT NCAI Founded in 1944, the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) is the oldest, largest, and most representative American Indian and Alaska Native organization in the country. NCAI advocates on behalf of tribal governments and communities, promoting strong tribal-federal government-to-government policies. We promote a better understanding among the general public regarding American Indian and Alaska Native government, people, and rights. ABOUT THIS POSITION NCAI seeks a Meeting and Events Coordinator with the skill and enthusiasm to help coordinate exceptional conferences. This position reports to the Director of Conferences & Events. NCAI brings tribal leaders and governmental partners, and national and regional native organizational partners, together to work on national issues important to tribal nations. These meetings range in size from small focus group meetings, to the large Annual Convention. The Meeting and Events Coordinator is an integral member of the External Affairs Department that is responsible for providing administrative support and oversight in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of these events. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Employee must possess: • Two or more years of experience in working with meetings and conventions and the meeting planning process; • Marketing and sales experience including the use of social media to promote events; • Solid writing, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; • The ability to work independently, taking initiative within areas of responsibility, as well as take direction working in a team oriented environment; • Capable of setting priorities when multiple demands are present; and • Experience with and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high pressure environment. The ideal candidate will also possess: • A degree in Hospitality Management or Business; • Experience working with Convention & Visitor Bureaus, Conference Centers, and hotels; • Knowledge of meetings and events contracts; and • Experience working with Native-owned and tribal businesses.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Conferences & Events, the primary duties of the Meetings and Events Coordinator include: • Assist as directed with the strategy and planning of all meetings and special events for the organization; • Coordinate all amenities and accommodations at the event; • Keep organized files and records to assist in the planning and budgeting of all meetings; • Perform a variety of tasks to prepare for meetings, including coordinating to ensure effective marketing for all events; • Assist as directed with the onsite execution of meetings and events; and, • Work with other Native organizations and partners in planning, executing, and evaluating meetings as needed.
Salary And Benefits:
Salary range is $45,000 - $55,000 depending upon experience. This position offers excellent competitive benefits including health insurance and disability, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan (to begin after 3 months of employment).
