The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms around the world. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to improve public safety and reduce the use of jail and prison. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research on topics of justice reform and provides consulting services to criminal justice innovators.
The Center’s Technical Assistance department works to create a more effective and humane justice system by training, advising, and collaborating with practitioners and policymakers to strengthen practice and launch reforms nationally and internationally. The department’s work encompasses drug treatment courts, community courts, Native American/Alaska Native tribal courts, prosecutor-led diversion initiatives, procedural justice, pretrial supervision, and many more areas of justice system reform.
The Tribal Justice Exchange is a component of the Center’s Technical Assistance department. Launched in 2008, the Tribal Justice Exchange provides training and technical assistance to tribes seeking to develop or enhance their justice systems, promotes collaboration between tribal and state justice systems, and identifies tribal justice practices that can help strengthen state justice systems. Over the past decade, the Tribal Justice Exchange has worked with more than 100 tribes to develop alternative-to-incarceration programs, specialized problem-solving courts, youth engagement strategies, corrections initiatives, and other initiatives.
The Technical Assistance department is seeking two experienced TA providers to serve as Senior Program Managers, who would work primarily on Tribal Justice Exchange projects. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Technical Assistance, these roles will lead technical assistance projects in a variety of subject areas. __________________________________________________________________________________
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Lead TA projects as assigned by the Deputy Director of Technical Assistance;
· Develop a broad range of subject matter expertise around tribal justice projects, including but not limited to strategic planning, alternatives to incarceration, juvenile justice, tribal corrections, tribal-state relationships, healing to wellness courts, and other problem-solving initiatives;
· Deliver a wide range of onsite and remote TA;
· Frequent travel to work onsite with tribal justice systems;
· Communicate with tribal grantee coordinators on a variety of grant-related projects;
· Develop TA work plans, training materials, PowerPoint presentations, site visit reports, and more;
· Present on a wide array of topics at national conferences, training events, and via webinar;
· Lead the writing of publications, including monographs, fact sheets, toolkits, and other products;
· Host site visits to Center projects in and around New York City;
· Assist with the development of grants, including grant writing, budget creation, and coordinating project partnerships;
· Engage in innovative approaches to justice system reforms and enhancements;
· Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a JD, MSW, or relevant graduate-level degree, or significant experience delivering technical assistance to tribal justice systems is required. It is strongly preferred that a candidate be willing to relocate to New York City. Ability to work with judges, attorneys, court administrators, elected officials, service providers, community members, and others as needed. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Candidates with previous experience working with tribal justice systems are strongly encouraged to apply.
Position Type: Full-time
Compensation: Salary range starts at 75K and is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
