Position Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Tribal Heritage Preservation Officer (THPO), the Cultural Resources Specialist will carry out the objectives of the Cultural Resources Department to develop and maintain effective working relationships with outside organizations, County/State/National Parks, local Historical Societies, Sonoma County Library, Tribal citizens, Tribal staff, and Library/Archival consultants; and assist in the maintenance of a sustained Cultural Resources Program.

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications:

? Two years working in Cultural Resources, or a Tribal Library or Archive

? Bachelors of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Library, Education, or American Indian Studies, or a closely related field OR

? Coursework in or equivalent knowledge/experience of Native American cultures, histories, languages, and literature

? Must successfully clear criminal background check, and pre-employment testing including, but not limited to, a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and drug test

Preferred Qualifications:

? Four years direct experience working in a Cultural Resource Preservation Office

? Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about Library Science and/or pursue a Masters of Library Sciences

? Prior library/archives experience recommended but not required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualifications:

? Ability to work collaboratively with staff, supervisors, and volunteers

? Ability to read, understand, and follow complex rules, regulations, policies, and directives

? Contributes to improving Cultural Resources and educational projects and procedures with creative and practical ideas

? Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to accomplish goals and objectives

? Demonstrated ability to work with interns and Tribal citizen volunteers

? Demonstrated ability to complete tasks efficiently and within stated timelines

? Demonstrated ability to operate a computer and general office equipment

? Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Internet browsers, and appropriate storage of electronic files

? Demonstrated ability to be flexible based on needs of project (outreach at community weekend events)

? Demonstrated experience working with Tribal community programming with specific examples of successful projects in Tribal communities

? Maintains high standard of accuracy in all tasks

? Maintains positive relationships with Library patrons as well as other staff

? Must be professional and interact positively with others

? Must have a record of satisfactory performance in all prior employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous employers

? Provides cultural awareness and sensitivity of Native American values and cultures

? Performs other duties as assigned
