On Monday, August 2nd, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. EST, NCAI will host a webinar on behalf of the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) to provide an overview of the Universal Service Fund (USF) E-rate Program.
USAC is an independent, not-for-profit corporation designated by the Federal Communications Commission as the administrator of the USF. The Lifeline program provides discounts on telephone and cell phone services for low-income consumers. USAC staff will provide a basic overview of the Lifeline program as well as recent reforms adopted earlier this year. Specific information will also be provided to explain how low-income residents of tribal lands can apply for increased discounts on telephone and cell phone services.
Residents of tribal lands at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, or that are enrolled in the following programs are eligible for enrollment in the Lifeline program: BIA General Assistance; Head Start; Tribally Administered TANF; the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR); Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Supplemental Security Income (SSI); Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit; and others.
