Responsible for managing the internal audit, G/L accounting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable departments.

Catawba Indian Nation

The Controller oversees the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization and should have a strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting, as well as current GASB statements. The Controller is responsible for the integrity and completeness of the financial statements, ensuring that the individual financial transactions are timely and accurately entered.

The Controller is part of the Financial Services Division of the primary government.

This position serves under the direction of the Executive Financial Director of the Financial Services Division. It requires the ability to interface with various members of the Division, tribal leadership, the accounting team, and all operational divisions of the primary government. Individuals must possess the ability to work and maintain the highest degree of confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the work.

Must possess solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills.

Must have a strong understanding of both generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards (GASB) for governmental entities, fund accounting, grant accounting, accrual accounting, and other principles related to governmental accounting practices.

Must provide the executive team with timely financial data to guide the reorganization’s financial decisions.

Must possess the ability to analyze, understand, and communicate on issues related to accounting, journal entries, general ledger, financial ratios, financial statements, systems, and processes.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Treaty Indian Catch Monitoring Program (TICMP) is operated in cooperation with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). The position is required to maintain a close working relationship and frequent contact with tribal, state, and federal fisheries agencies to ensure smooth operation of the TICMP. Assist TICMP Technician II or III in daily fish ticket processing and data entry. Coordinate the reconciliation of treaty catch data. Assist in training tribal personnel on the use of NWIFC computer programs. Provide assistance to the Catch Monitoring & Fisheries Data Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities: Primary focus for the position includes: supporting coastal fisheries managers with pre-season planning; in-season fishery monitoring; and the development of preseason forecasts and in-season update models. Familiarity with the fisheries models used for salmon and steelhead management, including how input data are used by the models to make projections and the ability to make changes or improvements to the models is important. This position will participate at the direction of the coastal tribes in joint Tribal/State/Federal forums and working groups, which rely on harvest management models (e.g., the Pacific Fishery Management Council and Pacific Salmon Commission) and will work closely with tribal, state, and federal technical staffs to develop joint work group technical analyses and reports. The position will be responsible for implementation of programs and reporting as required by coastal tribes to improve salmon/steelhead management.

The Director of Tribal Affairs at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is responsible for promoting effective government-to-government relationships with the 11 Sovereign Tribal Nations within the borders of Minnesota. Housed within the Commissioner’s Office, the Director of Tribal Affairs serves as a direct link between the 11 federally recognized Indian Tribes in Minnesota and the Commissioner’s Office. As a subject matter expert, the role focuses on government-to-government relations, communication, and education to enhance understanding and build relationships relating to Tribal-State and agency coordination. As a member of the Commissioner’s Office team, the Director of Tribal Affairs will work with agency Assistant Commissioners, Communications, Government Relations, Community Affairs, policy and legal teams, and Division Directors to build Tribal affairs strategies that can grow relationships and help further agency initiatives. These strategies and initiatives will ensure consistent, regular, and meaningful coordination, collaboration, and consultation in accordance with Minn. Stat. 10.65: Government-to-Government Relationship with Tribal Governments. In addition, the role will coordinate with the Governor’s Office Tribal Relations team to ensure cross-agency coordination, and other duties as assigned by the Commissioner.
