The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service is hosting a Tribal forum to provide information about its preparation to revise the Travel Management Rule (36 CFR Part 212). These regulations govern the designation of roads, trails, and areas for public motor vehicle use on National Forest System lands.
The rulemaking is being initiated in response to Executive Order 14408, Removing Unnecessary and Counterproductive Restrictions on Access to Federal Lands, signed on May 29, 2026, which directs USDA to revise the Travel Management Rule. To support Tribal consultation and engagement, the Forest Service has prepared a National Policy Summary Analysis that outlines the proposed revisions and describes how their implementation may affect Tribal governments, Alaska Native Corporations, and the Tribal citizens they serve.
