The Clinical Nurse (CN) supports the Wampanoag Health Service (WHS) in providing culturally appropriate, high-quality healthcare to Tribal members. This position works under the supervision of the Health Director and in collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and other health professionals. The CN assists in daily clinical operations, patient care, and program coordination—including serving as the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI) Coordinator. The Clinical Nurse contributes to a comprehensive community health strategy aligned with Indian Health Service (IHS) priorities, focusing on prevention, wellness, and education.

Physical Demands

Work Environment
• Work is performed in a clinical and office setting, with occasional travel throughout the Island and mainland for care coordination, outreach, and training
• Evening, weekend, or emergency hours may be required depending on patient needs and program responsibilities
Required Education
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or graduation from a certified diploma nursing program
• Current CPR certification
Required Experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience
• Experience with patient care coordination and case management (preferred)
• Experience working in or with Native American/Tribal communities (preferred)
• Familiarity with IHS programs, SDPI initiatives, or community health nursing (preferred)
• Must pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and background checks, including CORI And SORI.
Preferred education and experience
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
• Three (3) years of experience working in or with Native American/Tribal communities
• Experience with community outreach, SDPI programming, or public health initiatives
• Familiarity with IHS policies, programs, and reporting systems

In accordance with the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA) and the policies of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), preference in hiring will be given to qualified Tribal members, their spouses, and descendants, as well as other Native American applicants. Essential Functions

• Deliver direct nursing care in support of medical, dental, and behavioral health services within the WHS clinic.
• Perform patient triage and schedule appointments; prepare patients for exams and procedures.
• Participate in maternal and child health programs, school physicals, and community health screenings.
• Maintain clinic readiness, including exam room cleanliness, medical supply stock, and equipment functionality.
• Coordinate and administer the Immunization Program in compliance with IHS guidelines.
• Provide patient education and outreach in collaboration with the Community Health Representative (CHR).
• Participate in the WHS Case Management Program to ensure continuity of care.
• Make home visits for follow-up care and health assessments as needed.
• Coordinate referrals and assist with Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) processes.
• Support diabetic screening and chronic disease management, particularly under the SDPI grant.
• Visit hospitalized or institutionalized Tribal members to support continuity of care and advocacy.
• Liaise between Tribal members and health providers across Tribal, federal, and private systems.
• Maintain medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
• Support the development and implementation of clinical policies aligned with IHS and WTGH (A) standards.
• Travel within the Service Delivery Area to provide outreach and participate in community health activities.
• Attend professional development and training through IHS and other health organizations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Health Director.
