Job Description

Position Overview:
NWIFC is seeking internal candidates for the seasonal role of Coastal Watershed Assessment Project (CWAP), Fisheries Technician III (3). This role is integral to the Fisheries Services team and will be responsible for the collection of DNA.

Skills & Qualifications

Qualifications:
● A minimum of an associate degree, or coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in natural resources, environmental science, fisheries, or a related field.
● (OR) High school diploma with 2 years of direct experience
● (OR) an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that
demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the
position.
● Experience (academic, volunteer, or professional) participating in field monitoring.
● Knowledge of life histories of Pacific salmon preferred.
● Willingness to work in remote field sites.
● Willingness to travel regionally for up to four nights in provided accommodation.
● Ability to hike up to five miles in uneven terrain with survey equipment.
● Ability to work safely in remote river systems (swift water safety training provided and required).
● Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
● A valid state issued driver’s license.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
To support the seasonal field activities associated with the Coastal Watershed Assessment Project, a study assessing the status of freshwater salmon habitat on the Washington Coast.
● Field activities will include environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring and stream habitat surveys in river systems from the Chehalis River to Neah Bay
● This work will support management activities of the coastal treaty tribes (Quinault, Hoh, Quileute, and Makah).

Salary & Benefits

20.63 - $26.14/hour DOQ + shared housing (bunkhouse) & travel per diem
