The Controller is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations of a Sovereign Nation. This includes financial planning and operations, cash flow, budget, and external audit. The Finance Department consists of financial reporting and analysis, accounts payable, payroll, per capita, fixed assets and purchasing and grant management. Responsible for establishing and enforcing financial policies, procedures and controls to be consistent with General Accepted Accounting Principles and Internal Standards. Provide support and assistance to the CFO.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1) MBA or CPA and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance 2) A minimum of ten years proven senior level experience in an accounting field of which three years of Accounting and Supervisory Experience 3) A high level of integrity and dependability and results-oriented. 4)Strong knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls. 5) Ability to prepare financial statements 6) Strong understanding of banking processes and financial analysis. 7)Exemplary history of financial project management 8) Must pass an accounting test 9) Must possess a current Arizona Driver’s License and ability to meet FMYN insurance standards
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•
Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting to management that detail and summarize the Tribe’s government activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and operations.

Manage the accounting functions of the Finance Department.
•
Work with the CFO to direct and coordinate the establishment of the fiscal year budget.
•
Prepare financial forecasts for cash management. Provides status of financial condition by collecting and analyzing financial data.
•
Lead, manage and assist all finance department staff while promoting teamwork and cross training.
•
Assist with grant management including reporting and compliance and indirect cost preparation.
•
Lead the annual external audit engagement ensuring all supporting documentation is provided timely. Throughout the year, maintain a level of operations consistent with GAAP and Single Audit A133 requirements.

Maintain excellent communication with all Directors and Managers.
•
Monitor cash flow and accurately and timely transfer cash between accounts and do wire transfers as needed to outside sources to pay the Nation’s obligations.

Analyze financial statements on a monthly basis for accuracy, cash flow and budget maintenance.
•
Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
•
Oversee the preparation of the annual 1099 forms for accounts payable and tribal members.

Fixed asset accounting and reporting oversight.
•
Must multi-task job duties and meet deadlines.
