Job Description

The Controller is a key financial leadership position within the Tribal Government, responsible for managing and safeguarding the financial integrity of the Nation. The Controller oversees the Nations’ accounting functions, prepares financial reports, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports the fiscal management of tribal programs, services, and enterprises. This role serves as a critical advisor to the Tribal Council and administration on financial strategy, sustainability, and internal control.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration

8 years of accounting experience in government or Tribal entity, of which 3 years must be controller level experience

Physical Demands:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

Able to travel as needed.

Working Conditions:

Most of the work will be done in a standard office setting that has a moderate amount of noise. Occasionally, there will be local fieldwork that relates to emergency planning.

There will be frequent employee contacts and interruptions during the workday.

The successful candidate must be willing to work any shift, including after-hours, weekend, and/or holiday shifts, as needed.

Overnight business travel may sometimes be required. The employee must be able to drive seven hours within a 24-hour period.

Work is occasionally required in confined spaces and/or in high or low temperatures. There is seasonal exposure to airborne particles.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.

Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.

Conditions of Employment:

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures compliance with grant and federal government requirements.

Responsible for annual financial audits.

Assist CFO during the annual budgeting process.

Monitoring expenditures against budget allocations and identifying areas for cost reduction.

Ensuring compliance with federal and tribal regulations related to financial management, including grant reporting requirements.

Overseeing day-to-day the general ledger for accurate record keeping.

Assist in preparing financial reports for administration or council.

Train and provide technical supervision.

Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Salary & Benefits

$105,539.20 - $146,078.40 annually
