Job Description

The Executive Assistant provides high-level managerial support for the Tribal Chairperson in meeting internal and external organizational needs. He/she serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external constituencies on all matters pertaining to the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). He/she serves as a liaison to senior management; organizes and coordinates executive outreach and external relations efforts and may oversee special projects. The Executive Assistant must be wellorganized; detail-oriented; results-driven, and creative. The Executive Assistant to the Chairperson will be evaluated annually by the Chief of Staff in consultation with the Chairperson.

Required Experience • 3 - 4 years’ experience working in an office environment. • 2 years of experience working in government, public relations, or related fields. • Excellent in time management, organization, hands-on skills, and detail oriented. • Can work efficiently, have the ability to multi-task and prioritize duties. • Outstanding written, customer service and public speaking skills. • Conduct oneself in a confidential and ethical manner. • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). • Ability to work some nights and weekends. • Massachusetts driver’s license (current and in good standing). Preferred education and experience • Associate's degree • Experience working within a Tribal administration/community • 5 or more years’ experience working in an office environment. Tribal Preference In accordance with the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA) and the policies of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), preference in hiring will be given to qualified Tribal members, their spouses, and descendants, as well as other Native American applicants. Proof of Tribal affiliation or descent may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. • Demonstrates and maintains discretion, confidentiality and professionalism related to organizational and personnel matters at all times. • Manages the Tribal Chairperson’s calendars and schedules meetings. • Assists the Tribal Chairperson with travel, planning and other projects assigned. • Provides support to the Chairperson in preparation of materials for Tribal Council meetings. • Receives and triages concerns, inquiries and general administrative needs for the Tribal Chairperson. • Screens, answers and triages incoming calls for the Tribal Chairperson. • May provide backup to the Receptionist in the coverage of the telephone and reception as assigned by direct supervisor. • Drafts and compiles correspondence such as memos, letters, reports, etc. on an as-needed basis. • Establishes and maintains comprehensive filing systems. • Obtains information as needed from internal files, outside organizations, government organizations, and the internet for use by the Tribal Chairperson. • Performs other duties as assigned by the Tribal Chairperson.
