NABS is seeking a skilled and culturally grounded Graphic and Content Designer to join our Communications team. This position plays a key role in designing visual and written content that communicates NABS’s mission, values, and programs across a variety of platforms. The ideal candidate brings both creative vision and technical skill, with an understanding of how to communicate effectively with Native communities and the broader public. We’re looking for a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, is receptive to feedback, and values co-creating visual storytelling that uplifts Indigenous voices.

ABOUT US The National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS) is boldly leading the movement for truth, justice and healing for Indigenous peoples impacted by the U.S. Indian boarding schools. We are Indigenous led with 100% of the Board of Directors and Officers being Native American and Alaska Native. ● We are a coalition of 1,600+ members and growing, including Tribal Nations, Tribal enrolled individuals, allies, and organizations. ● We use our coalition voice to educate others about the truth of the Indian boarding school policies, experiences, and genocidal legacy. ● We expose the truth about Indian boarding schools through research and education. ● We lead action towards justice and healing for our children, families, and communities. ● We advocate for accountability through policy change at all levels, including the call for a federal Truth and Healing Commission on Indian boarding schools. ● We make resources available to raise awareness and support healing from the intergenerational trauma Native peoples continue to experience. ● We publicly launched the National Indian Boarding School Digital Archive (NIBSDA) last year, a first-of-its kind Digital Asset Management System capable of organizing and displaying historical boarding school records and materials for every identified boarding school institution.

Skills & Qualifications

What you bring: Must Haves ● Deep understanding of American Indian and Alaska Native boarding school history, legacy, and impacts. Along with knowledge of Native history, cultures, and contemporary issues, especially regarding boarding schools. ● Experience working with Indigenous organizations or communities. ● 3–5 years of experience in graphic design, visual communications, or related fields. ● Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva; video editing skills a plus. ● Excellent writing, editing, and content development abilities. ● Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, organizations, and individuals, along with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. ● Comfortable receiving constructive feedback in a team setting. ● Experience developing materials for diverse audiences, particularly Native communities. ● Strong project management skills; able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. ● Commitment to NABS’s mission, with a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach. Nice to Haves ● Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) ● Familiarity with WordPress and email platforms (e.g., Mailchimp). ● Photography and/or video production experience. ● Commitment to social change and justice for boarding school survivors and descendants. ● Ability to bring joy to the work, and passion for people, relationship building, and the power of our mission.

Duties & Responsibilities

GRAPHIC AND CONTENT DESIGNER Key Responsibilities: ● Design visual assets for print and digital media, including social media graphics, reports, infographics, presentations, and web content. ● Collaborate with the communications team to develop visual themes for campaigns, publications, and events. ● Create compelling content—written and visual—for newsletters, websites, and social media channels. ● Maintain brand consistency across all materials while supporting the evolving visual identity of NABS. ● Work with program teams to design reports, brochures, and other communications. ● Assist in managing and organizing NABS’s digital asset library. ● Ensure accessibility and cultural relevance in all design materials.

Salary & Benefits

$60,000-$75,000 annually
