The Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (NWIFC) seeks a strategic and knowledgeable Human Resources Manager to lead all aspects of HR for our organization. This role is essential in fostering a positive, compliant, and effective workplace by developing and implementing HR policies, overseeing the hiring process, and providing expert guidance to the NWIFC management team and staff. The HR Manager will play a key role in supporting our commitment to the tribes we serve and advancing our organizational mission.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in a senior HR role focusing on policy development, employee relations, and compliance.
Strong knowledge of federal labor laws and best practices in HR.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and experience facilitating sensitive conversations and resolving complex HR issues.
Ability to work in a culturally aware and inclusive manner, especially within tribal communities.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s Degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
7 years combined experience in Talent Acquisition and HR.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Leadership: Serve as the lead HR expert, offering guidance on complex HR and operational matters, presenting updates to the Board of Commissioners, and staying informed on compliance and employee relations issues.
Talent Acquisition: Oversee recruitment, from job posting to onboarding, ensuring a fair, transparent, and effective hiring process. Create and support recruitment pathways within Indian Country to effectively implement NWIFC’s Indian Preference policy.
Policy Development: Manage and update employee policies, ensuring they reflect best practices and NWIFC values. Lead efforts to improve and modernize the employee evaluation and compensation systems.
Employee Relations: Facilitate constructive dialogue between employees and management, resolve workplace issues, and promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
Operational Support: Advise management on HR and operational decisions, analyze compliance issues, recommend training programs, and support the development of career pathways for NWIFC employees.
Employee Wellness: Promote health and wellness initiatives, and foster a workplace that values employee wellbeing, morale, and retention.
Reporting Relationships:
This position reports to the Director of Administration and works closely with the Executive Director, management, and the Board of Commissioners.
$70,821 – $131,223 annually
