POSITION SUMMARY: This position conducts all administrative surveys and surveys as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor, needed to meet the needs of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.

Skills & Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must have a Current State of Colorado Professional Land Surveyors License. Must have 6 years of experience in land surveying. Must have 3 years of computer experience with a strong working knowledge of AutoCAD. Must have 3 years of experience creating plats. Must have experience and knowledge of the cadastral surveys in accordance with the Bureau of Land Management methods. Must be able to make clear, concise and effective verbal and written presentations and reports. Must sign confidentiality agreement. Must have valid Driver’s license for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal Vehicle Insurance Policy. Must pass a thorough criminal history background check and pre-employment drug test. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Working knowledge of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation boundaries and ownership of land within the outer boundaries of the Reservation. Be C-Fed Certified or capable of becoming certified. TERO preference.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conducts all survey work required to meet the needs of the Lands Division and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, defined by the Lands Division. 2. As a licensed Professional Land Surveyor, conducts surveys and prepares plats which conform to the Colorado laws regulating the practice of land surveying under the following conditions: • The survey involves the boundary between Southern Ute Tribal and fee land. • The survey involves private land in any way, such as a right-of-way across private land for the Tribe. • The survey involves the establishment or re-establishment of a section corner, 1/4 corner, or 1/16 corner, including filing the monument record with the State of Colo. • Any survey that finds previously unrecorded evidence of an original government survey corner. • The survey involves surveying homesites for Tribal Members. • The survey involves an allotment. 3. When conducting administrative surveys provides complete and detailed plats and other information to the department requesting the survey. 4. Prepares and reviews legal descriptions and other plats as necessary. 5. Responsible for the maintenance, upgrading or replacement of survey equipment belonging to the Tribe. 6. Advises the Lands Division Head on the estimated cost and time required for specific surveys. 7. Maintains complete records on surveys conducted. Keeps track of time spent on each project. 8. Provides information to Tribal departments, Tribal members, and non-members relevant to surveys. 9. Researches and complies information as needed from records maintained by La Plata County, BIA, BLM, private surveyors, and any other sources available. 10. Recognizes the sensitivity of the position as it relates to confidential information pertaining to surveying. 11. While on duty conducts himself/herself in a manner reflecting positively on the Lands Division and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. 12. Willingly accepts guidance and direction from his/her supervisor and makes changes in performance to comply with that direction. 13. Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with co-workers, the public and supervisory staff. 14. Performs additional related work as assigned.

Salary & Benefits

$70,570 annually
