Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker LLP (www.hobbsstraus.com) is a national law firm dedicated to promoting and defending the rights of Indian tribal governments. The firm is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant/Paralegal for our Sacramento, CA Office. This position will provide primary office support and paralegal support for three attorneys in office, and five remote attorneys. This position will provide office support including fielding a low volume of incoming phone calls, time entry, assistance with vendor payments, drafting and finalizing correspondence, and coordinating with administrative staff in other offices. Applicants must demonstrate litigation experience, including case tracking and familiarity with California Court System rules and processes, PACER, Westlaw, federal court rules and electronic filing, proofing and formatting documents to file and serve, via electronic filing and fax filing in California and federal courts, service of documents, preparing exhibits and preparing tables of authorities and contents, and drafting proofs of service, proposed orders, keeping case files up to date, cite checking/proofreading briefs, preparing materials for hearings and trial, drafting form pleadings. Applicants must also demonstrate experience using Microsoft Office including Excel and Adobe Acrobat. The position may also include drafting fact-based pleadings, and internet research.

Education & Experience:
Prior law firm experience preferred.

Skills and Responsibilities: Field a low volume of incoming phone calls Time entry into timekeeping software Prepare Expense Reports Office filing Technological Troubleshooting Assistance o Assist following through on tech issues between attorneys and tech support o Assure that printer and scanner are operational Mail/Service o Collect and distribute mail; flag high import pieces o Finalizing for filing and service; shipping via USPS and UPS Proofing and cite checking o Previous experience in academic or legal roles Litigation experience o Ability to review court rules and requirements o Preparing for hearings and trial, keeping case files up to date o Drafting form pleadings such as certificates of service, proposed orders, etc. Preparing exhibits Performs other related duties as assigned Skills: Court Rules Review, formatting and finalizing pleadings, proofreading and grammatical skills, written communication skills, planning, telephone etiquette, and oral communication skills, time management, legal terminology, computer literacy, interpersonal skills, typing, organization.


Salary & Benefits

$70,000-85,000 annually
