Plans, and directs comprehensive public and voluntary recreation programs at the recreation building, indoor center, playground, playfield, or day camp by performing the following duties or through subordinate supervisors.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: • Skill in oral and written communication; • Skill in customer service. • Knowledge of recreation programs. • Proven ability to implement team concepts and maintain a high level of staff morale • Ability to integrate life skills capabilities into programs and activities • Knowledge of CPR and first aid. • Knowledge of facility booking. • Working knowledge of IBM compatible computers, specifically in software programs Word, Excel, graphics, and Escom Class Software. • Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques. • Knowledge of program marketing techniques. • Skill in dealing with community patrons. • Skill in researching traditional and non-traditional recreation programs, activities, and services. • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Indian Community; vendors, other interested parties and the public. • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: 1) Bachelors’ degree from a four-year college or university. 2) Two years of supervisory experience in working with Recreation Specialists, Recreation Assistants, contract labor, coaches, officials, instructors, monitors, aides, and volunteers with progressive and positive employment history. 3) Three years of recreation programming experience. 4) Minimum 25 years of age. 5) Experience in working with Native Americans preferred. 6) CPR and first aid certification. 7) Current AZ drivers license and meet FMYN insurance standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Oversees the operations and activities at the recreation building, indoor center, playground, playfield, and day camp and responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this department; • Oversees the overall operation and maintenance of department /facilities equipment. • Submits weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to the Community Service Director. • Analyzes recreational needs and resources; • Conducts community surveys and develops short and long-range goals and objectives; • Interprets recreation programs and their philosophy to individuals and groups through personal participation and staff assignments; • Schedules use of facilities and schedules all recreation programs and activities; • Coordinates recreation program of host social services agencies such as school programs; • Purchases equipment and services from outside vendors; • Establishes and maintains contact with service and equipment vendors; • Cooperates with recreation and non-recreation personnel; • Studies and complies with applicable governmental regulations; • Develops and maintains relations with other recreation providers and departments in the community; • Manages subordinate supervisors; • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws; • Responsibilities include hiring, interviewing, in accordance with FMYN Personnel Policy, and training employees; • Plans, assigns, and directs work, appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees, addresses complaints and resolves problems. • Presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. • Responsible for set-up and removal of necessary equipment for events and activities • Required to work nights and weekend shift coverage • Required to work Special Events as needed
