Job Description

The Suquamish Tribal Court, located in Kitsap County, Washington, between Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island, provides for the fair and impartial adjudication of all matters arising on the Port Madison Reservation involving the Suquamish Tribe, Suquamish citizens, and other
American Indian residents of the reservation.

The Suquamish Tribal Court is currently seeking exceptional contract attorneys with a passion for equity and justice for families involved in the child welfare system to accept appointments to provide legal representation for parents and children in dependency cases.

Tribal Child Welfare cases are heard by the Court primarily on Thursdays, with some scheduling flexibility. Remote appearances are considered by the Court on an as requested basis.

Skills & Qualifications

• Licensed member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.
• One to three years (1-3 years) experience practicing public interest law, especially child welfare law, is preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to providing standards-based, culturally sensitive, and equity- informed representation to parents and youth.
• Ability to employ effective, trauma-informed communication with clients consistent with their developmental ability to understand.

Salary & Benefits

Compensation: The compensation rate is set at $150 per hour. Travel time is billed at this hourly rate. This is a part time contractor position, and the anticipation is a few case appointments per year.
