The Center for Indigenous Health (CIH) is located administratively within the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. There are also satellite offices located in the Southwest and Great Lakes regions of the Midwest where much of our community- engaged work is done. CIH employs over 250 staff and faculty, has 10 distinct satellite offices and an annual operating budget of $25 million. The core activities housed at CIH include research studies of behavioral/ mental health, infectious diseases, a graduate and doctoral training and scholarship program and wide array of public health service activities. More information about the CIH can be found here: Home - Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health (jhu.edu) This Research Associate position will work closely with the CIH Water Access Project Manager to coordinate a growing body of work focused on promoting water security on the Navajo Nation through research, service, and advocacy. This position will specifically support the Diné Household Water Survey (DHWS) research project. DHWS is a culturally-tailored household water needs assessment being implemented across the Navajo Nation with a subset participating in water quality testing. This first of its kind initiative aims to understand the true water and sanitation access experiences of Diné households and capture preferred solutions for improving access to basic water and sanitation facilities. The Research Associate will coordinate and support the Diné Household Water Survey activities across multiple JHCIH sites.

Skills & Qualifications

Requirement: Master’s degree in public health or a related field Preferred: At least 1-3 years experience with public health program coordination or research experience in public health; experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous evaluation frameworks; interest and experience in addressing water access disparities, Skills • Strong preference for those who have worked for tribal nations, urban Indian health organizations, or with tribal communities in previous work and/or research • Strong writing, speaking and networking skills • Team player • Strong leadership skills • Organized, efficient and detail-oriented • Independent learner and worker • Flexible and adaptable • Ability to effectively multi-task • Self-motivated and driven • Superb professional judgment and discretion • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point • Working knowledge of REDCap and/or other online data entry and management platforms Other • Ability to travel on a regular basis, including overnight trips for 3-4 days at a time • Valid driver’s license and good driving record • May be required to maintain fingerprint background clearance depending on worksite location

Duties & Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for the Research Associate include: coordinating internal and external communications; developing and managing project protocols, budgets, and timelines; tracking action items and deliverables; assisting with grant writing and reporting; coordinating and conducting data collection activities; support in data analysis and dissemination of findings; support in manuscript development and submission; and providing training, support and supervision to community-based project teams. This position may assist with other CIH programs and activities on occasion, as needed. Specific Responsibilities Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: • Creating and maintaining documents related to project coordination and management (e.g. meeting agendas and notes; policies and procedures manuals; tracking logs; etc). • Monitoring project timelines and completion of milestones. • Participating in development, testing, and evaluation of manuals, questionnaires, and coding structures, for the efficient collection of data. • Assisting with database creation; enter data into the database(s); assist in implementing data validation and a data management plan; assist with analyzing study data and writing up results. • Preparing preliminary program research findings, including creation of tables, charts, and graphs to summarize data. • Participating in the dissemination of study findings, including writing manuscripts, abstracts, and fact sheets. • Conducting literature searches and synthesize the literature including identifying strengths and weaknesses, key take-home messages, and gaps in the literature. • Drafting and maintaining project protocols and associated documents (e.g. research plans; consent/recruitment materials; assessment forms). • Assisting with writing federally- and foundation-funded grants, project reports, manuscripts for peer- reviewed journals, programmatic reports, and presentations for conferences. • Traveling on regular basis to provide on-site program support, training, technical assistance, and quality assurance. • Maintaining knowledge of and involvement with all the CIH behavioral and mental health, infectious disease and training projects. • Assisting with the other CIH-wide programmatic duties on occasion as they arise.
