The Mi’kmaq Nation is requesting proposals from qualified individuals to provide legal services for the following position:
Tribal Court Judge
This position supports the administration of justice within the Mi’kmaq Nation Tribal Court system. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to fair, impartial, and culturally responsive legal proceedings that respect Tribal sovereignty.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law
Relevant legal or judicial experience
Preferred:
Experience with Tribal Courts or Indigenous communities
Experience with ICWA cases.
Knowledge of restorative or culturally informed justice practices
Additional Requirements:
Adherence to professional legal ethics and confidentiality standards
Ability to work within Tribal Court procedures and schedules
Disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest
Willingness to undergo background and credential verification.
