Responsible for the administrative oversight, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the teaching program provided through the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy for children ages birth through
thirteen.

Skills & Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a BA in Education or closely related field.
Must have state type D or any current state teaching license.
Must have an understanding of Montessori philosophy.
Must be willing to participate in Montessori-related trainings as required or requested by SUIMA.
Must have 3 years of classroom teaching experience.
Must have 3 years of school administration experience.
Must have experience in budgeting and records management.
Must have computer experience including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Must have experience in program development and project planning.
Must have valid driver's license for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal Vehicle Insurance Policy.
Must pass a thorough background check including Criminal History and fingerprint check.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters’ degree in Education or related field.
Possession of a Montessori credential/certification.
3 years teaching experience in an environment with Native American children and families.
Knowledge and understanding of Southern Ute Indian Tribe.
Willingness to learn and speak Ute language.
TERO preference.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides administrative oversight, direction, and leadership for programs and staff of the Southern Ute Indian
Montessori Academy (SUIMA), which may include the development and recommendation of program planning
consistent with the mission and vision of the SUIMA.
2. Develops operational procedures for programs under the SUIMA segment, for all students enrolled.
3. Assists the Director of Education in preparing grant applications and fundraising activities for the school.
4. Responsible for the personnel management function of the position to include recruitment, orientation, training,
scheduling, evaluation, counseling, discipline, and termination.
5. Assists in the design and coordination of the development of goals and maintain systems to measure quality control
of educational programs for SUIMA, based upon an analysis of research and evaluation of information.
6. Responsible for the development of the financial plan and budget for the SUIMA, including monitoring costs,
expenses, capital expenditures, and revenue, assuring compliance within budget guidelines.
7. Participates in Tribal Council meetings, general meetings, in-service training meetings, and conferences as directed
by the Director of Education.
8. Reviews and approves appropriate procedures developed by the Curriculum Specialist to ensure implementation and
coordination of programs, and to assist teachers and staff in preparing and updating teaching plans.
9. Responsible for supervision of staff, to include development of lines of authority and clear channels of
communication with SUIMA staff.
10. Serves as an advocate for the SUIMA and its programs, promoting positive public relations through participation on
Boards, committees, and attending various tribal activities.
11. Will adhere to and collaborate with fidelity the Interagency Agreement between the local school districts and the
tribe.
12. Submits program reports and other information to the Director of Education and the Southern Ute Indian Tribal
Council as requested.

13. Assists in the development of policies and procedures, recommending areas in which policy development or revision
is appropriate.
14. Assists SUIMA supervisors and parent groups in the planning, development, and implementation of parent
workshops and staff professional development.
15. Ensures the Ute Curriculum Specialist establishes and plans cultural training for staff and parents.
16. Ensures the oversight of curricular and extracurricular activities that are sponsored/offered at school.
17. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Salary & Benefits

$105,983 annually Responsible for the administrative
