The KBIC Forester is responsible for managing, conserving, and enhancing forest resources on tribal lands within the L’Anse Reservation in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This role involves sustainable forest management practices aligned with both traditional Anishinaabe values and modern forestry science.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement forest management plans for tribal lands.
Conduct forest inventories, timber stand improvement, and wildfire prevention planning.
Supervise timber sales and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Collaborate with tribal leadership, natural resource departments, and federal/state agencies.
Educate and involve the community in forest stewardship and cultural uses of forest resources.
