POSITION SUMMARY NIHB is seeking two Project Coordinators to assist on various projects related to public health infrastructure and capacity. This is an external-facing role requiring regular engagement with Tribal partners, stakeholders, and external organizations. The Project Coordinator is a member of the Tribal Health Programs division and supports the successful execution of public health projects by collaborating closely with project teams, Tribal partners, and stakeholders. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Coordinator ensures smooth project implementation by promoting team cohesion and efficient workflow, aligning activities with the NIHB's mission of advancing health equity for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. These positions will provide critical programmatic, communications, administrative, and policy support and serve on projects focusing on Tribal public health research and assessment, infrastructure, quality improvement and performance management, core competencies, and training and capacity building. NIHB is filling two Project Coordinator positions under this posting: one supporting the Tribal Health Programs division generally, and one dedicated to the Public Health in Indian Country Capacity Scan (PHICCS) project (see PHICCS-specific responsibilities below). The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) seeks a Policy Analyst and a Senior Policy Analyst for its Policy and Advocacy Department. These full-time positions are based in our Washington, DC office with up to 25% travel required. Both roles involve monitoring regulations and agency activity, policy and budget analysis, Tribal Consultation, and technical assistance to Tribal leaders, federal agency officials, and policymakers through service on various federal Tribal Advisory Committees. Program Support and Assistance: With direction from the Vice President of Programs and California Tribal Fund, the Program Officer assists and supports First Nations’ California Tribal Fund program through duties including: • Assist in the design, implementation, and monitor projects under the California Tribal Fund program • Work collaboratively with other program officers, associates, and the associate director to develop agendas for sessions and workshops at conferences and convenings, including: o PowerPoint presentations, webinars, and training curriculum o Written materials such as invitations, announcements, press releases, agendas, session descriptions, assessments, and evaluations • Participate in pre-conference and conference development, includes the biannual LEAD and Food Summit Conferences • Assist in the implementation and delivery of training and technical assistance through onsite and offsite workshops, conferences, and webinars • Review and design reports and presentation materials for both internal and external audiences as directed by supervisor • Maintain excellent relations and communications with coworkers, partners, grantees, and stakeholders • Generate ideas and write articles for contribution to First Nations’ quarterly newsletter • Assist with the coordination and delivery of webinars • Thoughtful contributions to project design • Coordination of technical assistance, trainings, publications, and grantee onsite visits; project and consultant management • Organize and maintain program files, assist with grantee technical assistance needs and reports, coordinate convenings, work in close collaboration with other departments and programs • Follow local, regional, and national conversations affecting the California Tribal Fund’s program area • Perform duties in a timely manner, with documents, presentations, and high-quality materials aligned with First Nations’ brand Job duties listed are not intended to be all-inclusive; Employee may be required to perform other jobrelated duties as assigned.

First Nations Development Institute (First Nations) is a 45-year-old Native American controlled nonprofit organization whose mission is to uplift and sustain the lifeways and economies of Native communities through advocacy, financial support, and knowledge sharing. The mission of the California Tribal Fund is to invest in the viability and visibility of California Tribal Nations and communities. The California Tribal Fund program supports California Tribes, both federally and nonfederally recognized, and California tribal controlled nonprofits across four strategic initiatives: Stewardship of Ancestral Lands and Waters, Fire and Drought, Tribal Community Food Sovereignty, and Culture. The Program Officer plays an integral role in assisting and supporting the Vice President of Programs and works collaboratively with other program officers in the administration and implementation of the California Tribal Fund’s program initiatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree • Minimum of two years of relevant experience (e.g., experience in a nonprofit organization, experience as a Grantmaker/seeker) • Frequent travel required – two or three times per month 3 • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and selected fundraising and project management software Preferred Requirements • Master’s Degree • Four to six years of relevant experience working with California tribal populations • Knowledge of California Tribal customs and traditions, sovereignty and self-governance issues • Knowledge of non-profit organizational structure, legal issues, boards of directors, and practices • Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures and specific experience with California tribal communities and cultures • Demonstrated project management experience • Knowledge of and familiarity with Tribal Sovereignty and the historical and contemporary legal development and workings/status of Tribal Nations (highly desirable) • Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures/audiences, and specific experience with American Indian, Alaska Native and/or Native Hawaiian communities and cultures

California Tribal Fund Program Officer 

Strategic Fundraising: • In alignment with First Nations’ values, collaborate with the President & CEO, Vice President of Development, and development team to design and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan to achieve revenue goals • Support the growth of institutional development by securing funding from new partners and expanding support from existing funders • Strengthen and expand the institutional giving program by developing and executing strategies to meet revenue targets, while effectively managing program expenses • Oversee grant compliance by tracking deliverables and ensuring timely, accurate submission of all required reports, in coordination with Finance and the Vice President of Development • Leverage fundraising technologies (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Airtable, shared drives) to optimize processes and maintain data integrity in alignment with best practices • Meet individual and organizational fundraising goals • Engage consultants and external experts, as needed, to ensure institutional development resources—both human and financial—are effectively utilized to achieve organizational objectives • Lead institutional development operations by supervising staff, managing the fundraising budget, implementing strategic plan initiatives, and providing regular updates on progress and outcomes Staff Management and Development: • Provide leadership, supervision, and professional development for Institutional Development staff. • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new team members. • Set clear expectations and provide ongoing direction aligned with organizational priorities and strategies. • Facilitate regular team meetings and maintain consistent communication. • Establish measurable performance goals, monitor progress, and support accountability. • Deliver regular feedback, coaching, and mentorship to team members. • Conduct formal performance evaluations and support continuous improvement. • Address team challenges proactively and resolve conflicts as needed. • Identify and prioritize annual training and capacity-building needs. • Partner with staff to develop and implement individualized professional development plans.

First Nations’ Institutional Development department is a fundraising arm of the Development team that focuses on working with corporations, foundations, tribes, and federal funders. We build new partnerships, strengthen relationships, and provide education and awareness on philanthropy in Indian Country. Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree. • At least 3 to 5 years of development experience, including at least 1 to 2 years as a manager. • Experience developing and overseeing an institutional development program, and working with institutional funders (e.g., foundations, corporations, tribes, federal agencies.) • Knowledge of American Indian and Alaska Native policy issues. • Strong computer and database skills, including, but not limited to MS Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.) • Must successfully pass a background check. • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered. Preferred Requirements • Master’s degree in relevant field. • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in nonprofit development. • 3 to 4 years of management and leadership experience. • Experience and knowledge regarding nonprofit organizations and best practices. • Knowledge of and familiarity with Tribal Sovereignty and the historical and contemporary legal development and workings/status of Tribal Nations (highly desirable). • Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures/audiences, and specific experience with American Indian, Alaska Native and/or Native Hawaiian communities and cultures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer, with regular daily computer use. • Ability to stand and walk for up to one hour at a time during an 8 to 10 hour workday. • Ability to communicate effectively, including talking, seeing, and hearing, to engage with staff, leadership, and external partners. • Work is typically performed in a moderate-noise office environment. • Occasional physical activity, including walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 15 pounds on an occasional basis. • Role may require occasional extended work hours, time outside the office, and travel. • Ability to travel occasionally (typically one to two times per month).
