First Nations Development Institute 

The Senior Program Officer is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of multi-year, complex projects. This position will often direct the efforts of program officers and program associates on various aspects of projects. This position is also responsible for the management and supervision of direct reports (e.g., consultants, grantees, and fellows), providing direction, setting goals, giving feedback, employee coaching, and ensuring professional development and training. The Senior Program Officer will collaborate closely with First Nations staff, to ensure timely, high-quality program delivery, alignment with organizational priorities, and integration of Stewarding Native Lands’ work within the broader mission of First Nations Development Institute.

Stewarding Native Lands Program Officer

Oweesta Corporation is the longest-standing Native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) intermediary, dedicated to strengthening Native economies and supporting the sovereignty of Native nations. The Tax Director shall be directly responsible to the Tribal Council for the direction, control, and operation of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Tax Department. The Tax Director will be responsible for managing and expanding the Tax Department, which includes formulating all department administrative policies, processes, tax programs, along with defining all staffing and scope of work.

Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to CA state and tribal taxation such as dual taxation, tax assessments, exemptions, reporting, and tax avoidance.

Demonstrated knowledge of CA state and U.S. federal laws, rules, policies, and procedures relating to tax issues affecting tribal programs.

Demonstrated knowledge of possessory interest taxation and transient occupancy taxation is a plus.
