Schatz Energy Research Center

As an electrical engineer at the Schatz Center, the successful applicant will help develop innovative projects that aim to decarbonize the electricity grid and provide resiliency benefits to communities. Once hired, engineers are responsible for contributing to and completing work across several projects simultaneously. The successful applicant will report directly to a Principal Engineer and have the opportunity to work across both the electrical and controls engineering teams. Their role will also involve working with faculty, professional staff, and undergraduate and graduate students who are committed to understanding, deploying, and improving these emerging technology systems. After onboarding and initial training activities, engineers work with a Principal Engineer, lead electrical engineer, and/or lead controls engineer and others to finalize the list of projects they will work on. Then a series of hand-off and orientation meetings will be organized to transfer engineering duties to them. On a daily basis, the successful applicant will perform engineering and analytical work in collaboration with project teams in support of project execution. They contribute toward meeting project objectives and deadlines, and support project managers in keeping projects on time and within budget. As an electrical engineer, they also may supervise, coach, and/or mentor one or more early career-level staff or student research assistants. 4 The electrical engineer may represent our microgrid work at conferences, meetings, and other external events, and could potentially participate in networking and fundraising activities. They may also contribute to the development of new ideas and processes that enhance organizational efficiency, promote an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible workplace culture, support work-life balance as a core value, and help advance our vision, purpose, and values. Summer Intern

DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP: Lead, mentor, and support the Directors and staff in the Government Relations department. Oversee the development and implementation of team structure, team goals and performance metrics. Work with the Development Department to cultivate support for our policy and advocacy work. Co-lead collaboration among NIHB’s departments in Public Health, Development, Operations, and Communications, with Government Relations. Develop and manage budgets for the department and policy projects. Manage all department grants and cooperative agreements. Develop meaningful policy-focused relationships with Area Indian Health Boards and external Tribal/non-Tribal partners. STRATEGIC ADVOCACY AND POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Design and implement organization’s government relations strategies to influence public policy and regulatory outcomes in alignment with organization’s goals and objectives and promotes Tribal health priorities. Collaborate with member organizations and key stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify and prioritize key legislative and administrative policy issues impacting Tribal health and formulate strategies to address them. Lead the preparation and dissemination of reports, testimonies, public comments, and other materials addressing the NIHB’s priority policy issues Oversee all Government Relations Technical Assistance, Capacity Building, and Outreach and Education initiatives. Lead the development of NIHB’s legislative and policy agenda, policy positions, advocacy materials, and strategic communications to support the organization’s objectives. LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY ENGAGEMENT: Build and maintain strong relationships with Congress, Administration officials, Indian Health Service leadership, and regulatory agencies and represent the organization’s interests on Capitol Hill and with the Executive Branch. National Indian Health Board

The Senior Director of Government Relations is responsible for providing strategic leadership in advancing the organization’s legislative, regulatory and policy objectives. The Senior Director of GR will lead the Government Relations department and manage advocacy strategies to align with NIHB’s mission. This position will collaborate with internal teams, government agencies, Tribal leaders, and other external stakeholders to shape policy decisions that impact Tribal health and related public policy matters. This position will also provide high-level advice and support to executive leadership and the board, ensuring the alignment of advocacy efforts with the organization’s goals and values. The Senior Director reports to the CEO, it’s full-time and based in Washington, DC.

Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, Law, or a related field; Master’s or advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or legislative advocacy, with a strong track record of success in a non-profit environment. At least five years of leadership and management experience with direct responsibility for organizational government relations operations and cross- departmental collaboration Demonstrated experience in federal, state, or Tribal government relations. Strong understanding of policy processes particularly as it relates to Indian Country. Demonstrated ability to translate high-level vision into actionable, measurable plans that drive impact and align with the organization’s priorities and values. Experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives that support long-term sustainability, advocacy, and service delivery. Senior Director of Government Relations

Key Responsibilities: 1. Strategy, Vision, & Leadership: Provide strategic management, guidance, and oversight across the organization. Drive NIHB’s five-year strategic planning process and implementation in conjunction with the CEO and senior leadership. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as a key strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), providing leadership and direction across NIHB’s internal  operations. The COO oversees HR, Finance, and administrative functions to ensure the organization runs effectively and efficiently. This role is central to translating vision into action, strengthening systems and processes that support our team and the Tribal communities we serve.

QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Administration, Public Policy, Law, or related field. Advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred. Experience: At least 7 to 10+ years of relevant experience in a senior management (executive?) role, preferably as a COO or similar position in a non-profit organization. Strong background in nonprofit financial management, including budgeting, grants administration, financial reporting, and internal controls. Proven ability to support and oversee HR operations, including policy development, recruitment, employee engagement, and compliance with employment laws and best practices. Knowledge of operational best practices, facilities oversight, risk management, and organizational compliance in a nonprofit setting. Proficiency with nonprofit management systems, financial software, and basic IT infrastructure oversight. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans, with a track record of success in driving organizational change. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. The Traditional Food Project Manager is responsible for promoting the use of traditional foods to develop and sustain community food systems. The position will be responsible for implementing GLIFWC’s ANA SEDS Anishinaabe-zhiiwaagamizigan (Maple Syrup) Project, including but not limited to: 1. Work with tribal elders to develop curriculum on traditional practices, modern practices, and the use and maintenance of harvesting/processing equipment. 2. Attend tribal community events (i.e. education or health fairs) to provide project awareness. 3. Work with tribal leaders and programs to select new harvesters for the project through an application process and determine where new equipment will be housed. 4. Provide training to community program leaders and selected new harvester applicants on the use and maintenance of harvesting/processing equipment and safe food handling. 5. Work with community program leaders to schedule and instruct maple sap harvesting and processing workshops. 6. Attend GLIFWC’s Board of Commissioner’s meetings to provide project updates. 

In addition, the position will provide technical assistance to GLIFWC member tribes in:

 1. Establishing traditional food marketing, regulatory and processing capacity. 2. Increasing administrative capacity and support the effective implementation of the Off-Reservation Model Food Code. 3. Integrating traditionally harvested Ojibwe foods into federally funded food distribution programs, community feeding programs (i.e., elderly feeding, youth summer feeding, Head Start, etc.). 4. Coordinate and provide instruction for Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) certified HACCP Seafood Safety instruction for member tribes in partnership with Michigan State University Sea Grant. 5. Monitor scientific literature, nutritional analysis, and food safety information related to fish, game, and plants harvested by tribal members under reserved off-reservation treaty rights.
The position will also be required to assist with preparing and submitting grant applications to support the utilization of treaty-harvested foods in community food systems including: USDA, Administration for Native American SEDS grants, First Nations Development Institute, Native American Agriculture Fast Track Fund (Keepseagle), and private foundations. The position will perform the duties listed above in a manner consistent with the Commission’s policies and procedures and report to the ANA Grant Project Director.


Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission

Project Goals
The videographer will record oral histories with alumni, capturing personal testimonies that provide critical insight into the lived experiences at the Seneca Indian Boarding School. These recordings will contribute to the National Indian Boarding School Digital Archive (NIBSDA) and will be edited into a series of mini-documentaries (5–10 segments, each 10–15 minutes in length) for public education and awareness. This project, including filming, editing, and delivery of finalized products is to be completed by December 2025.

The National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition 

The National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS) seeks a qualified videographer to conduct oral history recordings and produce short documentary-style videos during the Seneca Indian Boarding School Annual Alumni Meeting, taking place in Wyandotte, Oklahoma from June 5 to 7, 2025.

Proposal Requirements
Proposers should have knowledge of the U.S. Indian boarding school history, legacy, and impacts, as well as an understanding of the resulting intergenerational trauma. All proposals should include:


● A brief cover letter summarizing experience relevant to this project.
● Resume or CV.
● Portfolio or sample links to previous video and oral history/documentary work.
● Timeline for delivery of raw files and completed edited content.

Lead and oversee all phases of energy project development, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

Guide projects through their entire lifecycle, from initial identification and conceptualization to implementation, post-completion evaluation, and long-term sustainability.

Provide essential project-specific information to support funding proposals, ensuring financial viability and sustainability.

Collaborate with the Field Operations team to integrate on-site project management with overall project goals.

Oversee contract procurement, ensure documentation and reporting are in line with funder requirements, and monitor progress against objectives.

Long-term Operations and Maintenance Planning:

Develop and implement strategies for the ongoing operation and maintenance of completed energy projects.

Ensure that projects remain viable in the long term and continue to meet the evolving needs of the community.

Indigenized Energy

The Director of Energy Project Development (DEPD) plays a pivotal role in spearheading the identification, development, and management of energy projects tailored to the unique needs and goals of tribal communities. The DEPD is instrumental in steering projects from conceptualization through to execution and long-term sustainability, including funding acquisition, implementation, and maintenance planning. The DEPD also plays a critical leadership role in the execution of a 5 year, $135 Million Dollar Solar for All project funded by the EPA to deploy solar+storage systems in 14 native communities.

Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Environmental Science, or related field or exceptional levels of experience in energy project development in tribal communities.

7+ years in energy energy project development and management, preferably in the renewable sector, with significant experience working on projects within indigenous communities and projects built with federal funding and/or innovative financing strategies.

Exceptional construction contracting and project management skills, excellent negotiation and interpersonal communication abilities, adept in stakeholder engagement, knowledgeable in renewable energy technologies, and proficient in strategic planning and implementation.

Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication, and strong leadership skills.

Deep understanding of cultural sensitivities, and proficiency in strategic and execution.

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, internet, HRIS systems, and Applicant Tracking Systems.

Strong customer service, negotiation skills and ability to interact with employees at all levels throughout the company.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement employee engagement and retention strategies.

Self-starter with excellent time management, multitasking and organizational skills.

Creative in brainstorming and proposing new ideas and solutions to existing problems.

Willing and able to travel occasionally, including overnight travel.

Enthusiastic team player who understands the dynamic of working in a matrixed organization

Outgoing with ability to provide excellent customer service to staff and external partners

Excellent critical thinker and problem solver; able to make solid judgments and decisions
