Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance, this position will ensure the smooth day-to-day financial operations of the organization.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Dakotas/Wyoming Chapter, the Legal Director will lead and expand the ACLU legal program across South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming, including developing and litigating high-impact cases and managing the legal department. At the direction of the Executive Director, the Legal Director will be responsible for crafting and executing legal strategy that advances the ACLU of SD/ND/WY mission, as well as handling the day-to-day management of legal staff and cooperating attorneys. QTE is a tribally owned enterprise responsible for managing and growing a diverse portfolio of businesses that serve both the Quileute community and visitors to La Push, Washington. QTE operations include Quileute Oceanside Resort, a coffee shop, parking fee collection throughout the La Push community, a restaurant, RV park and campground, a storage facility, an event center, a marina, and a convenience store and gas station. The Operations Director is a member of the senior leadership team within QTE, reporting directly to the Executive Director, and is responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of the enterprise. American Indian College Fund 

The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) is a key member of the President &amp; CEO’s executive leadership team (ELT). This role is instrumental in achieving the College Fund’s vision of thriving, prosperous tribal families and communities by supporting American Indian and Alaska Native student’s; college access and success and enhancing the capacity of TCUs to fulfill their cultural, workforce education, and community engagement missions. The CSO directly supports the President in the implementation of strategic and annual plans and budgeting and collaborates with the College Fund team, Board of Trustees, and partners to achieve the College Fund vision and its strategic priorities. Graduate degree preferred. Chief Strategy Officer 

(includes, but is not limited to, the following)

Provides legal advice to the Tribal Board, and Tribal Committees.

Provides day-to-day legal advice and representation for the various Tribal Entities and Departments.

Researches and prepares legal documents and opinions.

Draft and review tribal resolutions, policies, and procedures.

Represents Sault Tribe in meetings and negotiations.

Appears in Tribal, State, and Federal courts and before legislative bodies.

Monitors legislation and legal proceedings that may affect the interests of the Sault Tribe.

Consults with and keeps the General Counsel apprised of important issues.

Provides occasional backup in child welfare cases in Tribal and State court.

Provides occasional backup in criminal cases in Tribal court.

Attend Tribal Board meetings, workshops, or committee meetings as needed.

All other job-related duties as assigned.

Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians 

Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Staff Attorney represents the interests of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and is responsible for providing legal services to the Tribe’s operations.

 Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.

 0 to 5 years of experience working as a practicing attorney required. Experience in Indian law preferred. Litigation experience preferred. Experience in an in-house environment preferred.

 Member in good standing of any state bar or willing to get licensed. If licensed in another state or not yet licensed, must obtain the State of Michigan bar membership within one year of hire. Willing to be admitted to the federal district courts in Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Sault Tribal Court. Must maintain good standing for all applicable bar admissions. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check pursuant to the Tribe’s Human Resources policies. Must comply with the Sault Tribe’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests.

 Must have knowledge of State, and Federal law and a willingness to learn Tribal Law. Must have knowledge of State and Federal legislative and political processes. Must have excellent reading, writing, and communication skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing, and by telephone and email with co-workers, supervisors and the general public. Must have excellent organizational skills; organizing work, prioritizing tasks and managing time. Must be able to establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors and the general public. Must be able to work in high stress environment and handle difficult situations. Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision. Must be able to prepare clear, concise, thorough, meaningful, and grammatically correct written reports, letters, memoranda, policy and procedural drafts, and other written documents. Must maintain confidentiality. Native American preferred.
