Principal Duties (major areas of responsibility):

Narrative Strategy & Content Creation: In coordination with the Great Lakes team, develop and implement a storytelling plan focused on the ecological, economic, and cultural centrality of Great Lakes fisheries. Produce, collect, and curate compelling written, audio, and visual stories from anglers, Tribal communities, scientists, and coastal towns.

Community Engagement & Partnership: Cultivate relationships with key voices in the fisheries community, including guides, processing facilities, outdoor recreational businesses, fishing organizations, and Tribal Nations. Collaborate with NWF’s restoration and policy staff to highlight stories that connect fishery health to habitat, water quality, and climate issues.

Amplification & Outreach: Share stories through NWF’s digital platforms, partner networks, and media channels to illustrate the importance of fisheries.

Coalition Support & Collaboration: Represent NWF in relevant fisheries and conservation coalitions. Provide narrative tools and content to partners to strengthen unified advocacy for healthy fisheries.

Project Coordination: Manage story archives, track engagement metrics, and report on the impact of storytelling efforts.

This role will work closely with representatives from Tribal Nations and Indigenous community members across the Great Lakes region. A proven track record of producing and publishing compelling narratives (e.g., articles, blogs, podcasts, photo essays, video documentaries); self-published or commissioned work is acceptable.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to translate complex ecological and economic issues into engaging, human-centered stories.

Great Lakes Storytelling Coordinator

The COS is responsible for enforcing all policies and implementing the directives of the Tribal Council. This position provides direction to professional staff regarding the accomplishment of the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the Tribal Council.

Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head Aquinnah

This position reports directly to the Officers of the Tribal Council (Chairperson, Vice­ Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary) and is responsible for day-to-day operations, supervision of senior staff and personnel, equipment, buildings, and maintenance scheduling, and the overall administration of programs and services on behalf of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). This position is responsible for enforcement of all tribal policies and procedures including applicable regulations of funding agencies providing financial support to the tribe.

Summer Law Clerk 

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Employment, Training and TERO Department and its staff.

Review bids, contracts, lease agreements for TERO compliance with the Economic Development Department and the Fallon Business Council.

Attend pre-construction meetings with contractors to discuss TERO compliance.

Coordinate with Contract Compliance to verify if prevailing wages are required on a contract and monitor any contracts requiring prevailing wage for compliance.

Prepares annual Employment, Training and TERO Department Budget (i.e., budget modifications)

Develop forms and procedures to be utilized by the TERO office, forms and procedures to be approved by the TERO Commission. Maintain the TERO administrative process including, intake, complaints processing, hearings, court proceedings and imposing of sanctions against parties found guilty of TERO violations.

Performs regularly scheduled on-site inspection of all TERO jurisdiction work location and/or reviews weekly workforce reports and payroll records to monitor employment and contracting activities.

This position is responsible for overseeing the management of the Employment, Training and TERO Department and all related operations. Including the compliance and enforcement of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Employment, Training and TERO laws: Verifies calculations, collection of TERO fees due to Tribal government.Review contracts for TERO compliance as needed.Review and revise the TERO Ordinance for updates as necessary. Oversees the Vocational Rehabilitation and the TERO departments. Establishes and maintains public relations with civic, county, state and federal agencies. Promotes and highlights the skills and resources of the local workforce and the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe by creating job opportunities through utilization and implementation of the TERO ordinance. Planning and research of training opportunities for tribal members. Assists tribal members with training opportunities to obtain employment. Enforce the TERO Ordinance with contractors and ensure compliance is enforced.

Relationship Development, Community Building, and Programming

Develop and sustain a strong network of relationships with Indigenous leaders, corrections systems, impacted individuals and communities, and aligned organizations that advance Indigenous religious rights and support healing and redemption grounded in cultural practice and community.

Develop and strengthen relationships with supporting Tribes, while cultivating new partnerships with additional Tribes and nonprofit organizations. Nurture existing relationships with key partners such as NARS, ACLU-WA, Evergreen State College, and Look2Justice, and map strategic relationships for future development.

Meet with each of the 21 Indigenous Hoops and engage with leadership across all 12 Washington State Department of Corrections facilities to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Hoops. Attend select annual powwows during the summer season. Liaise with the third-party DOC contractor that coordinates the Hoops.

Facilitate the annual sub-granting process for the 21 Indigenous Hoops (January to March) and advocate for the ongoing development and health of the Hoops.

Plan and help facilitate the Annual Welcome Home Celebration in November and assist with the promotion and screenings of the documentary, “Resilience Inside.”

Launch and extend Huy’s “Touching Greatness” initiative in partnership with Indigenous artists, athletes, and cultural leaders.


Work closely with Chair Gabe Galanda and the Advisory Board to assess organizational needs and opportunities, and to implement a clear plan for scaled impact in year two. This includes developing integrated advocacy, legal, and narrative change strategies that advance Huy’s mission.

Develop a strategic vision and roadmap for evolving Huy into a fully developed human rights organization.

Design strategies to effectively leverage Huy’s 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) structures to maximize advocacy, programming, and resource development impact.

Build and deepen relationships with current and prospective funders, including Tribal charitable entities, individuals, and private foundations. Participate in key funder convenings such as annual Tribal charitable gatherings, Inatai grantee convenings, United Way events, and other relevant philanthropic and community gatherings.

Strengthen external communications to key audiences by regularly updating Huy’s website and Facebook page with news, updates, and blog content, while expanding the organization’s presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok.

Assess Huy’s current organizational infrastructure and implement initiatives that strengthen capacity as the organization grows. Ensure adherence to best practices in nonprofit management and compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.

Manage an annual operating budget of approximately $25,000 to support Executive Director travel and administrative expenses, separate from pass-through funding for the Hoops and other programming. Develop annual budgets and provide regular financial updates to the Board.

Maintain and enhance Huy’s website and social media channels and implement strategies to expand the organization’s digital presence and audience engagement.

Oversee and coordinate the work of contractors and external vendors to ensure alignment with organizational goals and effective execution of services.

Maintain all required state nonprofit corporate registrations and ensure timely completion of applicable federal and state tax filings related to Huy’s 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities.

Huy 

 (pronounced "hoyt") is a Washington State-based 501(c)(3) and (c)(4) non-profit corporation established in 2012 to provide religious, cultural, and rehabilitative support for Indigenous prisoners in the Pacific Northwest. The organization, whose name means "see you again/we never say goodbye" in the Coast Salish Lushootseed language, was founded to address violations of Indigenous religious rights within state prisons and to foster healing through traditional spiritual practices.

Largely volunteer-driven under the leadership of highly respected Indigenous rights attorney and advocate Gabe Galanda, 

Huy announces the search for its inaugural Executive Director to build sustainable organizational structures, secure critical resources, and guide the organization into its next phase of growth and impact

The Executive Director will cultivate strong relationships with Tribes, Native leaders, and aligned organizations across Washington state and beyond to advance Huy’s advocacy and resource development efforts. The Native Self-Determination portfolio centers the capacities of Native Nations and Indigenous communities to define and pursue their own priorities, elevating Indigenous knowledge, governance, and leadership. The portfolio invests in Native-led organizations, tribal governments, and community-based initiatives that build community and institutional capacity to support sustainable pathways to self-determination. As the same time, it advances accountable, trust-based relationships between philanthropy and Indigenous communities.

The Program Officer plays a central role in implementing the Foundation’s Native Self-Determination strategy through grantmaking, relationship-building, learning, and community engagement. Responsibilities include developing and managing a grant portfolio; cultivating trust-based relationships with Indigenous partners; participating in field learning; and advancing grantmaking practices that emphasize accountability, flexibility, and respect. With the Director, the role works collaboratively across the Foundation to align strategy, learning, and operations with Indigenous values and community-defined outcomes.
