CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To act as the chief administrator and educational leader of the College, who is responsible for the organizational structure of the College and for all executive and administrative duties in connection with the daily operation of the College. The president will lead a team of administrators, faculty, and staff to carry out the College's unique mission and vision and to meet the challenges of growth. The president will ensure SCTC can sustain a significant online footprint and simultaneously increase enrollment in face-to-face campus classes. SCTC's President will need to have passion for and understanding of higher education to effectively support those initiatives.

The president will also serve as a member of the board of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium, and as such must occasionally provide written and oral support for AIHEC initiatives to members of US congressional delegations. President 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Department’s Higher Education, Vocational Training and
Adult Education, Public Education, SCSYAC, Youth Employment, and SUIMA programs, including supervisory
responsibility and guidance to program leaders and staff.
2. Responsible for administering the personnel management function of the position, including onboarding, training,
scheduling of staff and assignments, performance evaluation, counseling and disciplinary actions, and termination.
3. Leads the development and implementation of the department’s 3-year Business/Operational Plan. Consistently
monitors programs, identifying and recommending program and procedural changes to the Executive Office.
4. Drives and manages change initiatives to improve educational programs and services; utilizes data to inform
decision-making, monitor outcomes, and guide continuous improvement.
5. Develops, prepares, and monitors the departmental budget in alignment with approved Business/Operational Plan.
6. Evaluates resource allocation, identifies cost-savings opportunities, and ensures strategic use of funds to achieve
objectives.
7. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by adhering to all applicable finance policies and procedures, maintaining
compliance; responsible for approving department requisitions, purchases, capital expenditures, check requests,
travel requests, and other related functions.
8. Provides direction and support in the development and implementation of new education programs for the
department, including programs in accordance with the Johnson O’Malley Act, BIA 638 Adult Education Act, and
SUIMA.
9. Works with the Education administration to develop departmental policies and procedures that supports the
Department's Business/Operational Plan, goals, and objectives.
10. Identifies federal, state, local, and private funding sources to further the department's goals, preparing grants,
proposals, and endowments.
11. Develops a positive and productive working relationship with federal, state, and Tribal agencies, as well as public
and private organizations in the field of education.

12. Oversees the development and implementation plans for crisis prevention, preparedness, and response with the
department.
13. Oversees the facilitation of needs assessments to determine the educational needs of tribal member students every 5
years, including the development and implementation of a comprehensive educational counseling program for tribal
members and families.
14. Works with school administration to monitor students' standardized achievement test scores, determines trends and
specific academic needs, and recommends solutions to achieve goals.
15. Meets with school administration and parents to address student conduct, performance, and attendance issues;
ensures policy compliance; and work collaboratively with all parties toward solutions that support student success.
16. Monitors and evaluates the department’s role on the tribal truancy team to ensure effective support for student
attendance.
17. Prepares quantitative and qualitative reports on a timely and accurate basis for the department.
18. Works with school administration and Curriculum Coordinator to monitor and track student achievement test scores
in the Private School sector to determine trends and specific academics needed, recommending solutions to achieve
goals.
19. Helps staff prepare quantitative and qualitative reports on a timely and accurate basis.
20. Identifies, addresses, and resolves personnel issues using established HR policies and provides leadership and
guidance to the department, implementing strategies to foster a respectful, inclusive, and productive work
environment.
21. Supports department-wide professional development and wellness by providing resources, coordinating training, and
promoting opportunities for growth and well-being. Promotes, develops, and maintains succession planning
strategies to ensure continuity and leadership development within the department.
22. Prepares and delivers semi-annual updates to the Tribal Council, or more frequently as requested.
23. Attends meetings and training and participates in committees, work groups, and task forces to further the goals of
tribal member education as requested or required.
24. Performs other job-related duties as requested or required.

Southern Ute Indian Tribe

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the day-to-day administrative operation for the Department’s Higher Education, Vocational Training and Adult Education, Public Education, Sunshine Cloud Smith Youth Advisory Council (SCSYAC), Youth Employment, and the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy (SUIMA) programs, including promoting and providing education opportunities to tribal members from infancy through adulthood, supporting Indigenous children in the public schools and private schools to reach their educational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have an MA/MS in Education or a closely related field and 5 years of experience in an administrative capacity in a
public or private educational system; or a BA/BS and 7 years of experience in an administrative capacity in a public or
private educational system.
Must have 2 years of teaching or counseling experience.
Must have 2 years of supervisory experience.
Must have experience using data to evaluate educational programs and student outcomes.
Must have experience collaborating with parents, families, or community organizations.
Must have computer experience including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must have knowledge of Montessori teaching methods and philosophy.
Must have a valid Driver’s License for the state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Must pass a thorough background check including Criminal History and fingerprint check.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Educational Leadership/Administration, or closely related field.
Valid Principal or Superintendent Licensure.
TERO preference.
